HOW TO PLAY BLACK DRAGON
Exciting New Family Game
Getting Started
Set up the deck for the number of players as follows-
- 3 players and 4 players - remove all the orange and yellow cards.
- 5 players remove all the yellow cards.
- 6 players use the entire deck.
The aim of the game
The aim of the game is NOT to pick up points.
Cards with points
Black #12-Dragon -15 points.
Black #11- Snake - 10 points.
Black #lO-Spider- 6 points.
All 12 of the Red cards-little devils-1 point each.
All other cards have no points.
Total points for each round scored is 43.
Green Cards - Trumps
There are 8 green cards- Trumps - which are dominant. They will beat all other cards. They are not worth any points but may be dangerous as they will often pick up points.
Purple - Safety Cards
There are 4 safety cards. These can be played at any time, even if you have the colour that was led. These are good to have in your hand as they are normally safe to play.
Start Playing
After adjusting the deck for the number of players deal out all the cards.
Each player chooses three cards that they do not want in their hand and passes these, face down, to the player on their right.
(It is often wise to pass back cards worth high points and trump cards. It is also good to remove one entire colour from your hand. Choose carefully).
Players must pass their cards back to the player on their right before they pick up the cards they receive from the player on their left.
Whoever has the blue number 1 card leads it to the centre.
Play moves clockwise.
All players must* play the colour that is led if they have it in their hand.
If a player does not have a card of that colour, they can play any card they like.
The highest card of the colour led, or the highest trump card, takes that hand and it is set aside for scoring later. Trump cards will beat all other cards.
That player then leads any card they like.
All players must*, then play that colour if they have it, or, otherwise play any other card.
*Safety cards.
These can be played at any time even if you have the colour that was led. They cannot take that hand.
A safety card may be led and the player nominates the colour. It is then the lowest card of that colour. The safety card may take that hand if no one has the colour that is nominated and nobody plays a trump card.
Scoring
Scoring - You can print score sheets - click here
At the end of the round, each player adds up the points they have collected.
These are recorded on the scoresheet.
A new round begins and play continues. The game finishes when a player exceeds 100 points. (or choose your own total).
The player with the lowest score is then the winner.
If a player successfully picks up all 43 points in a round, their accumulated score reverts to zero.
Definitions
